HOOF /stimulant?

While we're on the subject.  I overheard my vet say you could make hooves
grow faster by putting ichthammol around the coronary band, that it
really stimulated the blood flow to the area.  I honestly don't know if
he was serious or not.  He was talking to someone else and might have
been being sarcastic.  You'd have to be pretty desperate to want to deal
with ichthammol daily...but then some people are really desperate. 
Anybody ever heard of *that* one?
