Need Some Advice
We've been having discussions about leg wounds and Furacin ointment on
another chat line (Canadian Horse<almost as good as Ridecamp>). My
understanding was that Furacin (do you guys have such a thing in US?)
ointment is contra-indicated for wounds below the knee or hock because
it promotes proud flesh. Apparently it has been prescribed for exactly
such wounds by a vet and I'm wondering if anyone else knows anything
about this.
I had a yearling with an incredibly bad wound when I got him and with
LOTS of hosing, Dynamite ointment (thanks ABC products) and DMSO on the
swelled tendons where it wasn't cut, you really have to look to find
where it happened. We were told by 2 vets we would have to be prepared
for proud flesh but never had any. Would I have seen it if I used
Furacin? Hypothetically of course.
Just wondering
