Re: RC: another saddle fit question
Hi there,
Since ReactorPanel is coming up on this thread, I wanted to clarify a few
points (which can be confusing!) First, the panels are available in four
lengths. The terms for the panels are confusing - a 17" panel is designed to
fit the average horse using a saddle with a 17-18" seat. The actual panel
measures about 21" at the top and 22" at the bottom. The other lengths are
1" longer, and 1" or 2" shorter. Typically the very shortest panel is
appropriate for ponies. So, in essence, this system equates to a
"ready-made" saddle with panel options.
The front edge of the panel CAN extend over the shoulder, so long as care is
taken when placing the saddle on the horse to be sure that the edge of the
tree is well behind the scapular ridge. An endurance rider who owns an
Orthoflex looked at ReactorPanel saddles yesterday, and he was quite pleased
with the amount of flexibility in the panel. He could easily see that the
portion that extends over the shoulder is not weight-bearing nor at all
restrictive to the shoulder, unlike his Orthoflex panels.
May the debate continue!
