If you grind the caulk properly it will allow some slipping and not be to
hard on an otherwise sound horse.This is done quite frequently on older
barrel horses who actaully have problems and this allows them to make the
stops and turns without the jar or over traction that a rim or full swedge
shoe may give.I would like to repeat an earlier note saying that these notes
are only things to consider and a vet or farrier that has actually seen the
horse and knows the history, conformation and has diagnosed the problem can
make a good plan of action.RD
