Dear John,
A trailer is used to help stabilize the hock and was used for a long time
on Arabs due to weak hocks.
Trailers don't have anything to do with natural or 4 point
trimming/shoeing...maybe that was from your previous farrier. Do the
trailers have heel caulks? Does your horse have a hock problem? (If not,
he doesn't need trailers.) A certain amount of slide is natural as long as
it's flat footed, forward motion and equal on both hind feet. What portion
is wearing? The outside branch of the shoe or the outside of the hoof
wall? It may be that the horse's hooves are not balanced properly.
