Re: Accident at ride this weekend in Montana...???
Lawsuits are just the thing to enhance our sport's reputation with John Q.
Public. Impossible for those of us NOT there to judge the situation. Who
would pay in the end with a lawsuit? Endurance riders... maybe not out of
our pockets but we would surely pay in lost rides (I am sure insurance and
liability is a huge concern for ride managers already!) or in higher ride
fees (heck, maybe it WOULD come out of our pockets!). It's
unfortunate...so what can we do as participants in the sport? Is there
something WE can DO to prevent these kinds of accidents? We can gripe all
we want on ridecamp about the accidents that happen and who is responsible
and suing and how godawful the whole damn thing is.... I vote for making
suggestions that HELP ride managers not scare the hell out of them. How
can the finish line be made safer at the next ride you attend? How does
some other ride manager accomplish safe finishes or keep vehicles safely
away or direct pit crews to an appropriate place to crew??? Let's put our
heads together, discuss what can be done and "kwitcherbitchin'".
