I think it would partially depend on what type of oak tree the
acorns are from. Here in central Florida, I have several
large live oaks.
Every fall, the horses, pigs and dogs eat the acorns. The horses
would rather eat the acorns than green grass.
As of yet, I have had no problems. One of the horses spends
hours foraging through the leaves for the acorns, and has
probably eaten four or five pounds in a day.
Acorns are very fattening.
