Yep...you gotta get out on the trail for a nice camp-out for a couple of
nights and days, some leisurely "at home" behavior patterns. Plenty of
water to drink. Maybe at first a private place to picket or tie or a
corral...then add other horses to the picture. (I've been trying to figure
a way to get my guys to pee BEFORE loading into the trailer, but they will
wait to go indoors if possible.) I have a pal who trains her mules to avoid
peeing in the trailer, but she trailers exponentially more often than I, and
lives on the trail a great deal of the week. (Anyone know Garrie Bates from
Mt. Airy?) Opportunity to develop "the trail is home" comfort must be the key.
