Thank you to all who responded to my problem re: my filly's swollen hind legs. I now have an 'official' name for the condition - Lymphangitis. And it can be caused by a multitude of things. I've seen it before in horses that are brought in from good pasture and stalled and overfed - the legs 'stock up' with fluid from lack of exercise. It can also be caused by toxins - which is probably my filly's problem, I'm sure she ingested ferns, briars, etc. instead of the grass I had intended her to eat. I've learned my lesson - she will not be allowed in that pasture again until I have made it weed free. A side note - if you suspect poisoning one of the first signs is a shallow, rapid pulse.
