eggbar shoes

YOu're right! I have had more than one bad hoof to do that could only
take 4 nails, one time it was three on one side and only one on the other
side... Stayed on for the required 4-6 weeks, too. I notice that a LOT of
farriers will not leave enough lateral/medial support on a horse's hoof
so it can spread when the foot impacts the ground, or so it still fits in
4 weeks when the hoof has grown- how many out there have seen a horse's
hoof overgrow the side of the shoe in 4-5 weeks? Granted, it may be time
for a trim, but it would also be nice if the hoof didn't do that. I leave
at least 1/16th to 1/8th inch on the lateral and medial sides when I shoe
my own horses- and I bet I also leave more heel on than most... usually,
in a horse that doesn't interfere naturally (different story anyway),
about an extra half inch to an inch... or it could be an egg bar if I
needed to...
I have to say that when I see a really good farrier job, it's just
amazing... the horse looks COMFORTABLE in the shoes. Of course there are
as many different ways to shoe as there are horses... none of this is
meant as a slam, just my observations...
