I remember hearing somewhere that "Polish Arabians" are the descendants
of the horses that the Poles captured as booty when the European alliance
finally defeated the Turkish advance into Europe at Vienna sometime in
the 14 or 1500's. And, as such, they are actually more "Turkish" bred
(i.e.,
southwestern Asia) than "Arabian desert" bred.
I'm not sure where I heard it. It might have been in James Michener's
_Poland_ (admittedly not the greatest source of equine bloodline history).
I don't know if it is true, but it's a *great* story!
