Calibration issues with the Heart Check

RE HeartCheck

When there are many many pieces of the same equipment being sold
and used for "measuring" something, and if those measurements
are going to be compared to each other.... then there must be
a standard calibration to the SAME SAMPLE (a "gold standard" is
the term for such a sample.)

If a gold standard is not used, then these heartcheck hand held
jobbies, cannot be taken at face vaule... the manufacturer will
have to say "accurate to +/- 4 beats per min..
It's important to know that any pirce of equipment that
INTEGRATES over time, will not be accurate unless it's calibtaed
every so often (to a standard.... not just Oh, it's been adjusted).

As there is SOOOOOOO much importance now in the HR, then IMO
it's going to come down to:

1) Certified pulse-takers with a GOOD scope or
2) Good electronic equipment, which gets Certified by a calibration
   Standard...

In my opinion (after working 20 years with all sorts of measuring
equipment) there is ALWAYS error in any electronic measuring
device if you are working on a Dynamic subject (which a beating heart
certainly IS!!!) Couple that error, with un-calibrated, or poorly
calibrated equipment, and the measurements will not represent reality.
