these days, many 50 milers leave camp, at least in our region, within hours 
of the ride.
the night before is the only time to get together with old friends, and 
sometimes we do talk loud, and laugh too loud.  but if you wait till after 
the ride, many of the folks are already gone... seems like it didn't used to 
be that way....
