Extensor Tendon Injury

Has anyone had any experiences with common digital extensor tendon
injuries?  A friend had her two year old gelding turned out for the
day.  When she brought him in she noticed swelling in his left rear
leg.  The vet says that it is the common digital extensor tendon and to
keep it wrapped for two weeks until the swelling goes down and then
they will probably do an ultrasound.  The vet doesn't feel that this
should affect this horse's future endurance career.  If your horse has
had this kind of injury we would like to know what your experiences
were during recovery and how your horse is performing after recovery. 
Any info would be appreciated.
