Re: FootWear

I like to run/lead down hill during a ride and I find that the Millers Heels
Down are detrimental to my health. The rounded bottoms act like roller
skates. The most sore I have ever been was when I used them on a very hilly
ride. I hit the dryed grass and almost couldnt keep my feet under me. The
Horseshoes seem to work a lilttle better and grip the ground better. The
best I have found for riding and running was a light weight hiking boot.. I
use the wide web stirrup and there is no way to get hung up. I have had
several chances to do it and it didnt happen. My favorite ones were a boys
hiking boot from Payless shoes. They are called Rugged Outbacks. Fairly
inexpensive and wore like iron. Comfortable for my wide foot too. They
have been wet numerous times, wading thru streams and the leather bounced
back fine. Yup....they are leather. I wore them on Tevis and my feet gave
me no trouble (numb toes) at all. (at least for the 86 miles I actually
completed). I ran down hill in them and they gave great ankle support yet
were plenty comfy. Ariats are supposed to be good, but I have yet to be
able to afford a pair. (they cost more than an entry!!!) I'm not sure I
would like the length of the upper part of the boot. The hiking boots let
my foot flex up and down without restraint. Oh well, there is my 2 cents
worth. <GG> gesa n clovis
