I hate to see the mileage limited at all. Sure, most people aren't able to
do 1000 miles--but then most horses don't deserve to be National Champion,
either. Remember--To Finish Is To Win! We need to get back on track in this
sport and demonstrate that our National Champions can still finish lots of
rides. If there are enough people who have done the mileage to fill the
placings, more power to them. If not, those with less miles start filling in
the placings. Besides, since it is based on POINTS, someone with 500 miles
of WINS will still beat someone with 1000 miles of back-of-the-pack
completions. Putting too many limits on the championship is like the dumbing
down of our educational system. I want to be able to look up to our
champions as horses and riders who CAN outdistance the average. No one ever
said that winning has to be made easy.
