Lif,

I hope this point you made in your post does not just get quickly read
over. It's suprising how many people will feed their horses the
stemmiest, most mature feed they can find to prevent weight gain,
without addressing the other nutritional needs of the horse (protein
(quantity and quality), vitamins, minerals, etc).

Have run into too many folks whose horses have just survived a bad case
of laminitis, and they decide that the recovering animals need to eat
the equivilant of straw to prevent this from occuring again, or to keep
the weight off. Horses who are trying to repair themselves NEED the
proper levels and types of amino acids, vitamins, and minerals which
will not be found in old feed. It's a balancing act to keep the
Calories down, but to also remember that hoof, muscle, etc. do not
rebuild on lignin alone (or at all) :-D.

Just wanted to thank you *profusely* for making that point!.
