You should never give electrolytes unless their has been enough water
consumed before hand. By giving electrolytes before & not knowing if your
horse will drink is dangerous, and this would only make things worse. Nerves
is what might of made your horse not drink. To get him used to this is
practice at home with groups of horses, trailer away to different areas and
make group practice rides. If your not able to do this, then just go slow at
the limited distance rides until your horse is able to relax a think about
himself and drink. Don't consider doing more miles until he will be a good
drinker and eater.
