The first earthquake I ever felt was in upstate NY (before I ever moved to
California) , and as I recall it was only last year that Ohio/Indiana had
an earthquake in the 3-4ish range.
I used to live in the East and MidWest -- and the fact that I *chose* to
move here should give some indication of my preferences. <g>
