When I decided to buy an Orthoflex (used), I first bought an endurance
cutback. Hated it. Didn't feel like it made the horse happy either. But
then I traded saddles with someone who had an old traditional - sat in
that for the first time and felt like I'd come home - fit both me and
the horse beautifully. I've fixed the loin rubbing problem by tossing
the booties and using a woolback pad. I think Bob Morris deserves the
credit for clueing me into the fact that if the pad and saddle can rub
against each other they won't rub against the horse. My horse's back
(which has always been ouchy in the past) is now 100% with this setup.
I also tried the "stitchdown" model - felt like i was sitting 3 feet
above the horses back.
I agree wholeheartedly with your local OF dealer. If you just try one
you might think that OF's are not for you. But don't give up until you
try a few different models. When they work, they really, really work!
