Following is from Dinah Rojek onsite at PAC.

Good morning from Manitoba. The weather changed radically last night,
with
winds strong enough that Canadian steward, Barbara Holmes-Balmer is sure
the
tarps that disappeared "might be in Wisconsin by now". We are bundled up
today, and thinking about another layer.

Some corrections from yesterday: the U.A.E. team did not show up and
ninety
horses were vetted through with three pulls (G.B., Canada West, and USA
East) at the start. We just heard one horse is out at check one.

One the lighter side, the Manitobans know how to party. Last night a
hearse
pulling a 12 seater hot tub pulled next door to the USA East rented
house,
affectionately known as the "villa". Glenboro is a town of 600+ folks
and at
least 100 were in and out of the hot tub. The rain was not even a
concern.
The US East groups were invited to join in, but thought better of it.
The
Glenboroans partied till 2:30am, about the time some of the nervous
staff
were rising.

We are lucky to have Mike Foss, treatment vet, here. He and his family
took
the train to Mynot, N.D., where he jumped off to rent a car. As the
train
pulled out the rental car agency told Mike that no, they were sorry,
they
could not rent a car to someone with a driver's license. He called Ray
Randall to see if he could get a ride. Ray burst out laughing and said
"they
are real fussy about that."It took him two days to get here by bus.

There are lots of horses in. The fastest competitor coming in after the
first twenty-four miles was Rita Swift in one hour and thirty seven
minutes.
It looks like it will be a fast one!
