SHoeing problem
We have a weird problem here - our stallion, who had endured and survived a
bacterial cardiac infection (endocarditis) about 18 months ago and is in a
reconditioning program that no one thought he would live to enjoy. The
problem is that over the course of the disease AND treatment and layup his
feet became weak and shelly and he lost some heel. He also acquired white
line which appears to be under control now - BUT - NOW he has so little foot
to put a shoe on - just the front ;left - that he can hardly keepa shoe on.
If he can successully keep a shoe on for another 6 to 8 weeks, we think he
will be wlel on his way. But of course, just as beneficial to hoof growth is
weight-bearing exercise and this is getting tough considering he has trouble
keeping that SHOE on. Kind of a vicious circle. He is conditioning well - a
miracle after what he went through - and we want to do our best to brign him
back to whatever fitness level he is capable of.Ou shoer is going ot come out
tomorrow to re-shoe that foot. Any ideas on how to shoe and ride him for a
couple of months? He is entered in a 25 miler the first weeke of September
and I would hate to pull him, but......
He needs the work to encourage hoof growth and yes he is on a good hoof
supplement as well. Okay experts - lemme have it!
