Used to imagine that, too, but I think it is more that Arabs have more of a
sense of humor and know that they can pull that particular trick over on you.
We start all of ours (most of which have NOT had the advantage of living with
natural running water, other than small ditches) by buddying them up to an
experienced trail partner for a couple of rides and then heading for the
water. They quickly find that it is mentally more comfortable to cross the
water than to have their trail pal go off and leave them.
