Re: Standardbred correction/saddlebred
The cross is only called the National Show horse if the nomination fee is
paid. They can be registered 3 separate ways. First as National show horse,
Second as a part Arab and thirdly as a part Saddlebred. Most of the crosses
get registered as part Arabs as that has the biggest show circuit and futurity
money. In some res they get registered as National show horses and a few get
registered as part Saddlebreds but the Saddlebred show circuit does not have a
lot of classes for partbred so there is not a lot of reasons to register this
way.
Due to the way they are registered as Arab partbreds the other part does not
get mentioned and therefor not recognised, but there are lots competing in
Endurance. Their endurance had a big affect on your American civil war eg.
Morgan's Raiders were mounted primarily on Saddlebreds. In August 1862 the
whole command (2460) went from Sparta to Gallatin a distance of 90 mile not
including detours to conceal movement in 25 hours.
That was done without the knowledge we have today of electrolytes, etc. and
that included carrying an army with guns and ammo (lots of dead weight).
