Re: Standardbred correction/saddlebred
Hi Ina,
I have an arab/saddlebred cross that I think is going to be an
excellent
endurance horse. He has the stamina, energy and conformation.
He is
hot, and a little over-reactive, but with miles and maturity
he should settle
down considerably. I actually think these traits are somewhat desirable
in a competitive horse. I'd much rather have a horse with an 'edge' than
a lazy one. For an endurance phenotype I think it's actually a
good cross,
both breeds are typically light and flat muscled, and the
saddlebred
adds a little more height and substance.
Steph
p.s. one drawback to mixing saddlebred with arab
is a potentially high
headset. This horse is
almost 16hh and when he throws his head up,
it goes waayyy up. Plus the horse's head is in your face a
little more
when you're mounted. (ask Kat Swigart who rode this horse 5
days at
Outlaw Trail last year!)

correction/saddlebred
Correction to the standardbred
question. It was saddlebred. Do you think a 1/2 arab/ 1/2
saddlebred horse would make a good endurance horse or do you think he would
be too hot. Does anyone have one and uses it for
endurance.Ihutch
