More new trails coming in Va.

I just wanted to brag a little about all our trails in Va.  and let everyone
know that I have negotiated another state park opening to horses.  Lake Anna
State Park located in the center of the state has given us, the Va Horse
Council, the go ahead to prepare the existing trails and develop new trails
in the park for multi-use. This work will be totally done by volunteers as
the park is to understaffed to undertake the project.  We will get to use 5+
miles of the existing trails and as of today we have now marked another 5+
of new trails.  While a 10 mile trail is not a lengthy trail to most of us,
this trail will serve a section of the state that has no public horse trails
for at least a 50 mile radius.  There is potential for more trail but we
will get these established first.
The best benefits here are NO BUGS and no rocks.  Here in Va those are
pretty big pluses.
Our first workday will be on Aug 14 and we are inviting the local bike clubs
to join us in the project.  Our hope is to build a good volunteer team for
regular maintenance as well as developing good relations between the user
groups.
If we have a good enough turnout for our workday, we can actually get much
of the work done in one big shot.  Most of the work involved consists of
opening old logging trails.  I spent all day today trailblazing on foot with
the park district's environmental specialist who is turning out to be a
wonderful ally.   Our goal is to have the trails open in Sept. and he is
determined to help us do it. Then he wants us to start on his park :)
I can't wait to get started!!!!
