Re: RC: CIDs
Gelding a stallion with known CID carrier genes is the best way to control
the passing of this terrible inheritance in the Arabian breed. I applaud the
owner for taking this very responsible step. I certainly don't see any
similarity between passing "color" which is a matter of personal preference,
and passing a killing gene which can lie unknown in a pedigree until an owner
is faced with a dead or dying foal. I firmly believe that the registry needs
to require testing for all breeding animals and the papers should be marked
with the results. Not everybody who breeds has the capabilities or knowledge
to do the research into the pedigrees of their horses.
