Re: Newbie observation (long)
Klickitat may be flat, but I didn't consider it an EASY ride this year.
Last year's trail did seem easy, even on Dez, a rough riding horse who threw
my back out near the beginning. This year there were more bogs, more stream
crossings, and LOTS more twisting, turning single track which took it's toll
on horses and riders. I was VERY sore at the end of the 50 even tho I rode
2Z, my Cadillac horse, at a very moderate pace and "should" have felt great.
I was happy with his vet scores but he was tired as well.
Denise Sager did the 100 and found it much more tiring for her and the
horse than Tevis last year.
My observation is that it isn't as simple to "rate" rides as we try to make
it.
