Maggie,

Could be, but they also roll if they are just hosed off, or get
"sprinkled".  The water  seems to irritate their skin--could it be
drying  or taking out the oils?  The roll  really does seem to act like
a "shower" does for people--really makes them feel good and relaxed. 
Anyone else have a theory?
