Bob Marshall Sport Saddle

Sandy asked about the Bob Marshall Sports Saddle. I have one which is now
used by my junior rider. After many years of not riding, I bought this
saddle to return to riding. It provided wonderful security and comfort. It
took some getting used to the centered riding position of an endurance
saddle but now I realize that the SS was really not quite far enough back
for me.

I put 1000 miles on this saddle which rubbed all the suede off the seat. I
recommend that you skip the suede. I had the 4" horn removed after hitting
myself in the chest so hard going up hill that I was black and blue for a
week--several times.

My horses all vetted well and none had a sore back. BUT I began to notice
that Thumper was getting a few white hairs by the withers. Then I noticed
that all the high withered horses seemed to rub on the SS. I ride as a MW
to HW and the clearence over the withers can rub on many horses. I switched
saddles and put my junior rider on the SS. He loves it and as a feather
weight, he does not have clearence problems over the withers.

Check archives for the great saddle survey from about a year ago. I think
the favorite saddle was the SS (the Bob Marshall is the same thing by
released by Circle Y) but there was some concern by the heavy weights.
