I can only speak for myself---but strictly as a rider asking my horse to do
something that *might* leave him open to a biomechanical or metabolic
injury, I just want to be confident that ride management has provided at
least one vet that is:
a) currently licensed and in good standing somewhere in the U.S.
b) has the right, knowledge and ability to carry the drugs and supplies
which my horse might require, up to and including the drugs for an
approved-protocol euthanasia
c) has the experience and knowledge with horses, preferably performance
horses, to make the correct medical decisions regarding my horse given worst
case scenarios.

Personally, I don't care who tells me whether my horse is fit to continue or
not. 99.9% of the time, I already know. I care about who will be there to
save the day (or attempt to) should a disaster happen. That's all. If I
should find out ahead of time that a ride's treatment vet doesn't fulfill
the above criteria, then I won't be going. Period.
