Re: Horses wanted
I'm with Lif on the price of the horses requested. Clearly, most of
ya'all ain't from around here. In my area -- small town about 45 min.
outside of K.C., you can go to the local auction and pick up a dead broke
horse from 3-20 years old for between of $300-800. Arabians in
particular are dirt cheap and a tall, beautiful, chestnut Cognac
Perfection daughter, well-conditioned , went for $500 at the auction a
few weeks ago (killers bought her because locals don't like Arabs). I
was *GIVEN* an elderly, dead-broke mare to keep her from going to the
killers. She's a 30 year old Racine (sp?) granddaughter, and my kids
ride her.
So, Lif, you might want to tell your friend to try a small auction.
Caution is, of course, the key word. Luckily, our local auction is
really reputable and if the horse was drugged, etc., the owner will, if
at all possible, haul the person selling it back to the auction and get
your money back. There is also a large area for test rides, and it's
understood that trail riders are going to take the horse back to the
forested area to ride. If there's something like that near your friend,
it might be worth a try.
