>> the chicks were born in April and as far as I can tell, they were all hens.<< Boy, if you are lucky enough to get all hens out a batch of chicks, you have better luck than I do. We usually end up with more roosters than hens when ours "hatch a batch". We have never had problems with chickens in the barn, and they also help keep the flies down. I will forward your question to a friend who is studying to be a poultry vet at UC Davis, and is also a horse person. She can let us know in vets terms if any problems exist in coexistence in the barn of chickens & horses. Jonni in Cal. where the neighbors chickens have hatched about 25 new chicks in the last month....in our yard! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
