Sounds like some kind of "rural legend." ;-)
We keep a small herd of range chickens around our barn and they earn their
keep. They produce wonderful eggs (much tastier than the months-old anemic ones
you get at the store.) AND, they scratch over the horse poop so well that we
seldom have to scoop or spread it ourselves. We also have very little problem
with flies.

I'm not gonna touch that one.
