DVM licensing
THat's exactly right. I have had to take written exams for my state
license, pass a course for ACcreditation and apply for my DEA license.
That's AFTER I have passed my National Board and Clinical Competency
exams- two days of exams folks. All day exams. However, I think there is
a provision allowing for emergency situations... at least in VA state
law. I would have to go back and look to get the exact wording. I would
also think that because of the below, it is to ANY ride's advantage to
use local veterinarians for treatment provided they know something about
the sport and some physiology so the correct fluids are administered,
etc.
But for general helping out with the rides, I am still learning but carry
my handbook with me and refer to it often. That's why I figured I better
be licensed for everything at least in my state, because then I should be
covered in the event my services are used in a case such as this. At
least that's what I would think according to our laws. And that would
certainly explain why vets from other states (CA!) can come help us here
with the OD and even be head vet and it's ok. I am fairly sure that the
law also includes services at events.
That's about as clear as mud. :)
