good posts

This is in response to the inquiry about finding posts to accomodate the
4" wide tape. I have made a really nice portable paddock which uses the
4" wide tape (2 strands) with the "tape" insulators attached with
sheetrock screws to 5' hardwood grade stakes. These are cheap, durable,
no more awkward than fiberglass or plastic, and make a much more solid
portable fence. I find that I only need 6 of them to make a nice sized
paddock, because they are sturdy enough to span a good distance. They
don't flop in the breeze like fiberglass or bend around the corners. I
got them at the local feed/garden supply store. They are 5' tall with a
point on one end for driving into the ground, and about 1-1/2 inches
thick (cut square). I pound them in with a small sledge hammer. I
believe they cost about .50/each. I also use these stakes instead of
fiberglass for building temporary/semi-permanent fences to divide
pastures up or fence-in summer grazing areas. They hold up really well
and look much better than fiberglass - safer than T-posts or steel.

The only trick to them is to install the insulators before you pound
them in to the ground, and to use sheetrock screws with a drill instead
of pounding in nails - that tends to split the wood.

Hope this helps someone.

Chelle
