We had pre ridden it many times, but that's of course not nearly the same as riding the race itself. So when I looked at my watch going over No Hands Bridge - it was already light enough to do that without a flashlight - I was panicked to see I was going to have to really hustle or not make it. So the last miles were a nightmare, with me trying to figure out how to get there on time without killing me, my horse or the other riders still on the trail. Oh, by the way, this was when they didn't do shotgun starts, but timed starts, sending groups of 10 (I think) out every few minutes. So you didn't know if the people in front of you were ahead of you or behind you time-wise. I didn't realize then how much of knowing how you are positioned is based on who you've passed and been passed by - which info is pretty useless when you have a staggered start. I think I came in with under 5 minutes to spare - and we came in at a gallop, with me yelling at the top of my lungs!
