Re: AERC Def of LD

Regarding changing the definition of LD from 25-35
miles, to 0-49 miles.

This proposal went before the AERC board of directors
at the mid year meeting last summer. It was approved
by the board, but required a membership vote since
it required a change in the AERC bylaws. It was then
voted on and approved by the general membership last
fall.

Since then, a petition was circulated stating
that the new bylaw (0-49) was not in AERC's best
interest and requesting that it be rescinded. The
petition carried enough signatures to require that
the issue again go before the general membership
for another vote. There will be an article or two
in one of the EN issues this summer, discussing the
pros and cons of the bylaws rule since many felt
that the membership (and BOD) voted to approve the change
without really understanding the ramifications.

The bylaw changed was not incorporated into AERC's
operations and rules during this 1999 season because of the
controversy (the petition) and because the ride managers
(and riders) were not fully prepared for it when
the season started in December.

AERC members will have another opportunity to vote
on this - probably in the fall when the ballots for
election of directors get mailed out.

I hope this helps...

There is a statement at the top of the AERC rules which says they are NOT
current.....really helps, doesn't it?
