scratches formula, packet of azium (from vet), 2 inches of desitrin or zinc oxide, 3 heaping teaspoons of nitrafurazon, mix together, wash and dry area, smear on , wrap if necessary, treat once or twice a day depending on how bad the scratches are.  Get scabs off, keep area soft, constantly watch!  I deal with this with my mare all the time.  Hers are not from water as much as from sand, so she is checked every night and dealt with accordingly.  Jeanie
