Non Refundable Fees
I am ride secretary for about 6-8 rides a year with three different managers.
We usually say we will keep $10-$15 for those disqualified at the pre ride
check and return all if canceled a day or two ahead, depending on the ride.
Usually, I give back all the money for those who fail the pre ride check
because I feel sorry for them. They took off work and spent money to get
there and then don't even get to ride. Besides usually having to spend money
to find out what is wrong with the horse. Besides, sometimes they stay and
help with the ride. The only people I have no sympathy for, will keep all of
their money and would like to be able to bill them more are the infamous "NO
SHOWS" that don't even have the courtesy to call.
With the Shine and Shine Only rides, we never cash the checks because we
never know if the ride will be held until the Wednesday before the ride date.
Depends on the amount of rain that week. Then we give people the option of
tearing up the check or rolling their entry over to the next month's ride.
Putting rides on in January, February, March and April we usually at least
get to have the April ride.
I am surprised that a ride would not refund any money at all. Did they
have a written policy on the entry? Maryben
