Sarah,
I never saw anybody with such a BIG smile all day during the ride!!!
Folks, she had her OD buckle on the next morning, absolutely shining! We just don't know how she'll wear both the 50 & 100 mile buckle after next year, though. :-)
The weather at the OD was perfect - low humidity and low temps... Probably the best weather day I've ever seen for this event. Times were fast (a smidgen over 13 hrs for the 100)!
For those who don't know, the OD is probably the toughest 50 & 100 mile ride on the East Coast. Having spoken with folks who have done both the Tevis & OD, they are different but the difficulty is comparable. The OD just doesn't normally have all the dust. (This year makes a 2 year drought... little water & more dust than usual).
Inside of the next week or so, I'll try to post a little bit on my impression of the ride as a volunteer (station head) since I wasn't able to ride this year. I appreciate all the driving my crew has always done to keep up with me. I could RIDE to every stop on the race, but driving was a whole new experience.
BTW - Doyle Patrick has threatened to come back next year to ride the OD 100. If you see him, remind him! We're looking forward to having him come back!

We did it! Fling and I came in 37th out of 50 (68 started) in the Old
Dominion 50! It was her first 50, only my second (last one was 13 years ago
on Fling's dam in Colorado).
