Loosing people shoe

Anybody else have this happen?  My daughter, riding the Californio 100, ran into a stump about stirrup hi, and the top of her riding shoes was ripped off.  It was really weird, we just taped up her shoe and foot and off she went...Wonder if I should send it back to company for their reivew...
