Re: RC: MSM-Gluclosamate

<< I have written in a few times now about my old mare with arthritis and
many have kindly responded to me. I have her on a MSM-Gluclosamate
combination and it appears to be working just great, no lameness,
actually no signs at all of any discomfort. If you could not see the
actual lump on her front knee you would never know she had anything
wrong with her (Yes, keep my fingers crossed). My question being here is
there at any time that a person should start to back off on these
supplements, cut down on amount given or strive for a goal that a person
may not have to feed these supplements at all or is this probably a life
time way of living for this 19 year old mare. I would greatly appreciate
your input on this.
Thanks

Since chondroitin/glucosamine and MSM aren't drugs there is no reason to
worry about building up an "immunity" to their effects. My understanding of
these nutraceuticals is that they can and should be used at whatever strength
you are getting any improvement. They don't cure arthiritis nor give
analgesic relief but help with lubricating the joint that is compromised. If
this mare is more functional and comfortable using these compounds I would
continue using them and not worry one whit about creating an "addict". As
long as you can afford this "habit" for her I would continue.
