Snaffle Snaffoo

It turns out I have a 1998 Miller's English catalog and Jasmine is
right, the Richard Shrake bits, some of which have sweet iron mouths,
are in it. Glad to see the cross-cultural encroachment, both in
materials and design, into English territory. (Oh dear, something
else to spend money on... :-)

I can't believe that the fact that sweet iron rusts altogether explains
why it has not heretofore caught on with English-style folks. Absent
the lower prevailing ambient humidity between the western and
eastern United States, I should think they would rust just about
as much for a person riding Western as a person riding English.
Sweet iron will probably finally "crossover" when somebody like
Robert Dover uses a sweet iron bradoon (mouth & rings) on his
Grand Prix horse. Then it will become the IN thing to use.
I did see something in the Miller's catalog that I had never seen
before: an Uxeter Kimberwicke with a *3* piece broken mouth.
Interesting combination of mild and (mildly) severe. The 2 piece
broken mouth "snaffle" Kimberwicke is common, but I've never
seen a 3 piece before.
They also had a Hartwell pelham such as Heidi was describing.
The bit selection in the State Line English catalog is disappointing.
Just your basics.
