Suede vs. Smooth

I'm currently riding in a SS with a reiner front and a 3" cantle.  I've
nearly decided to order one with the standard pommel and cantle because I
feel boxed in.

My question is about suede vs. smooth leather.  My current SS is smooth,
but the "sticking power" of suede is appealing.

Question #1:  Is the care of a suede saddle the same as for a pair of suede
shoes?

Question #2:  How quickly would the nap on a suede saddle wear out and
become slick and shiny?

Question #3:  Will water (rain, sponging, etc.) damage suede more and/or
faster than smooth leather?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.
