LOL ! Well, hate to add to rumors, BUT...thinking it safe, I was munching a
turkey sandwich at a ride a couple months ago, when my little mare decided
that if it was good enough for me, it was good for her...she ate half of the
sandwich, meat and all.
And years ago, I had an ancient belgian/QH cross gelding, a blm mustang, and
a heinz 57 horse....all lived in the 5 acre backyard shared with the dogs.
Well, they all decided that dog food was as good as grain, and we had to
relocate the dog's feeding area because of the carnivorous {and
cannibalistic?!} horses who stole the dog's food. These were very well-fed
horses who just *liked* to eat. Everything.
I had a friend who is a big show person....she has a filly who has been
shown in halter since she was a weanling, the filly is now five and not only
drinks soda, beer, and most concession-stand products, but stole my friends
steak right off her plate at an after-show cookout!
And before I get blasted by the nutritionalists, NO I don't make a habit of
allowing horses to eat meat products, heck, I didn't even think my mare
would actually eat that sandwich, and I don't intend on letting her repeat
it. Just thought these instances were rather amusing!
