Hi Kori,

The Californio 100 is a nice ride.  I have ridden it the past 2 years and I
think it would be a good first 100.  It is a loop ride so you need a crew
that is willing to follow you throughout the day but the vet checks are
mostly along paved roads and easy to get to.  This year the trail will be
ridden in reverse, at least that is what I have heard, so the prettiest part
of the trail will be the first half.  This will be the trail that covers the
Pacific Crest Trail.  The last part of the trail will be the desert floor
and fire break roads.  Camp will be at a new location this year, but it
sounds like it will be a nicer area to camp in, although the previous camp
was fine.  The rider turnout was small in previous years, which was what
management wanted, but I'm sure this year's turnout will be larger with the
ride being the regional 100 mile qualifier.  I will miss the smaller number
of riders.  I was fortunate to ride Outlaw Trail the first year Crockett and
Sharon held this 5 day ride in 1987 or 1988 and that year we only had 25
riders.  When I went back in 1994, or was it 1995?, there were over 75
riders.  Smaller rides are more fun but not as financially rewarding for
ride management.
