OCD
I thought I'd found my next endurance horse, a 2 year old purebred, but
when the vet x-ray'd his legs he found an OCD in his right, hind fetlock.
The vet was surprised because nothing in the prepurchase exam indicated its
presence.
In the past week I have talked to 3 vets & read all kinds of material on
OCD. The only thing I have truly learned is that there is no clear cut
answer. The concensus is that the colt has probably had it since his
growing spurt -- he is an honest 15.1 with 8" canons & he is only 2!
I was hoping that anyone having experienced OCD with their endurance horses
would share their story with me (private, please, so as to not clutter the
group). When was it discovered, did you have it removed, did the horse
continue competing, & any long term consequences (e.g., lameness,
arthritis, etc.).
The horse has all the makings of a great athlete & I want to make as
informed decision as possible.
Thanks in advance,
Vicki Wheeler

p.s., Susan, thanks for your input.
