Well, I didn't read the original post, but two things are factors here--how
much prep did the horse (pony) have and what was the competition? I have
seen horses EXTREMELY fit from a lifetime of activities that were excellent
prep and that were genetically "right" for the sport who Top Tenned right out
of the box, and continued to do so for long careers. I have also seen cases
where one Top Tens because there is very little competition. Heck, my hubby
took our stallion Bo to an LD at the beginning of his career and WON the darn
thing--of course, there were only 5 entries, and even though Bo and Paul took
over 5 hours, the other four were even slower. Ride your own ride, always,
and never count the folks ahead or behind until it is all over.
