drug testing
My horse has had blood drawn for testing three times in the last 2 years.
I ride in the midwest. Blood was checked in Illinois, Minnesota, and
Wisconsin. This does not count the ROCs that I have been at that take blood
routinely pre-ride (but I don't think all of that blood is tested as that
would be too expensive). This Spring was the first ride I was at that blood
was taken and I was not asked to contribute any.
My understanding is that urine is a more accurate test, but you try to
stand around all day and wait for a dehydrated horse to pee after 50 or 100
miles. I know at the Cosequin Challenge they were trying to get some urine
at vet stops from randomly chosen horses, but my friend's horse just
wouldn't give any during the 30 minute break.
